CIMIC ORIENTATION COURSE 01/23

From 13 to 17 February 2023 Multinational CIMIC Group (MNCG) as a joint and combined unit specialized in Civil –military Cooperation, has organized and conducted the CIMIC Orientation Course (COC) at the Mario Fiore barracks. The COC is considered the first step of CIMIC education aiming at providing the basic knowledge of the CIMIC joint function, as well as providing an overview of CIMIC tasks and actions across the modern operational context and in support of a military operation.

 
The course, entirely conducted in English language, has achieved the participation of 26 attendees coming from the civil dimension and Italian and foreigners military armed forces. During the week course the attendees had the opportunity to assist at both theoretical class and practical activities, both individually and collectively. Moreover, the attendees had the chance to handle practical exercise as syndicate groups, working as team members in the resolution of low and medium intensity challenges related to CIMIC. The course, a part from the pool of selected and specialized instructors, has also seen the participation of Guest Lecturer and briefers from civilian institutions both Italians and international.


It is noteworthy to mention the participation of the representative of the Office for The Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Mr. Sergio Da Silva, the delegate for the relationship between the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and NATO Mr. Xavier Godefroid, the representative from Medicines Sans Frontieres (MSF) Ms. Inma Vazquez and Dr. Margherita D’Ascanio from ICRC. The course ended with the characteristic graduation ceremony, held by MNCG Commander Col. Ugo Proietto. During his speech Col. Proietto outlined the changes of the current strategic context and operating environment and underlined the importance of continuing to increase the preparation of the Armed Forces in order to be able to operate in synergy with the civil dimension to the resolution of crisis.

 
The MNCG education and training landscape offers several courses ranging from basic to advance. All courses aim to achieve the highest standards and requirements in order to consolidate the MNCG role as national hub of CIMIC expertise and education centre across the Italian Armed Forces and NATO.
