SOMALIA: CIMIC PROJECT FOR FORLANINI HOSPITAL

Mogadishu.
The opening ceremony of a CIMIC project, developed by Multinational CIMIC Group operators, in favor of the public health facility "Forlanini Hospital", was held in recent weeks inside the International Campus of Mogadishu, home of the headquarters of the EUTM Somalia (EUTM-S) mission. The hospital was built in the Somali capital by the Italian government in the early 1930s. The project, requested by the director of the hospital through the Ministry of Health of Somalia, made possible the construction of a reinforced concrete structure used as a kitchen and dining room with its supply of furniture, which replaced the previous structure in metal. This will help to improve the quality of the services offered by the hospital and thus increase the comfort of patients.
In addition, the structure was built with bricks made by Somali prisoners of Mogadishu Central Prison who, thanks to a previous Italian CIMIC project, were able to learn these working techniques for the future reintegration into society and the world of work.
During the ceremony there was also the delivery of sanitation materials to the Khadare Orphanage Centre, whose products were purchased with funds made by the charity march organized by the Italian contingent last June in which the staff, stationed at the International Campus, took part.
The inauguration ceremony of the project, carried out in accordance with the rules aimed at the contrast of COVID-19, was attended by the Italian Ambassador, Alberto Vecchi, the Mission Force Commander of EUTM-S, Brigade General Antonello De Sio, the Commander of the Italian National Support Element (IT-NSE), Lieutenant Colonel Licio Dettori and the Director of the health facility Dr. Fadumo Abdi.
The humanitarian project was made possible thanks to the liaison activity carried out by the CIMIC cell of IT-NSE composed by of personnel from the Multinational CIMIC Group, the unit with such a specialized connotation that with its work contributes to increase the public's support towards the military mission.
